Our Comprehensive COVID-19 Re-Opening Strategy

Downtown Works will resume normal operations on Tuesday May 26, 2020.

In California, Governor Gavin Newsom has began to lift COVID-19 related social distancing restrictions. While we did remain open to members, we have taken extensive precautions to ensure the health and safety of all guests. Governor Newsom has released office workspaces reopening guidelines that outline measure that office space providers, like us, have to do in order to be open to the public.

Working from home is not easy, we understand that. In order to provide you with the best and safest environment, we have implemented various new policies and procedures to ensure that you feel comfortable coming in to work. We continuously invest in our own business, so your business can thrive and succeed.

Here’s Downtown Works’ approach to support the safety of our community— with policies that are intuitive, clear, and research-driven.

Policies Updated 6/28/2020

Health & Safety

Entry Policies

  • To ensure everyone in the workspace is healthy, all members and guests will be screened with a very simple, non-invasive temperature screening that will display an instant temperature. This will be done at the reception desk before you can enter the space. Any guest or member displaying a temperature over 99.9 will be kindly be refused entry. Members who arrive before business hours will have their temperatures checked once our team arrives onsite.
  • Our team will ask every member and guest to verbally confirm that within the last 14 days, they have not presented any of the symptoms or been in contact with any of the symptoms of COVID-19 as outlined by the CDC.
  • Members & Guests must have a mask or face-covering in their possession in order to enter and while walking in the space. You don’t need to wear a facemask while sitting at your workstation.

Social Distancing Policies

  • In accordance with California and San Diego Public Health Orders, face coverings or masks are mandatory in all public settings or when you have the potential to be within 6 ft of another person. It is required that you bring and wear a mask while within Downtown Works. If you do not have a mask, we will gladly provide you with one. You do not need to wear a mask while sitting at your workstation.
  • We have reduced our capacity to ensure proper social distancing between workstations and lounge areas. We ask that tables or chairs not be moved to alternate locations. If you have any questions, please see a staff member.
  • We have also installed Acrylic Partitions between Open Space workstations so we can ensure that you are protected from your neighbors. These Acrylic Partitions are part of a collaboration from Safe Acrylic.
  • Members that are in a Private Office are encouraged to continue to practice social distancing whenever possible.

Cleaning & Sanitizing Policies

  • We continue to increase sanitation and disinfecting of high tough point areas which include bathrooms, elevator buttons, door handles, etc. We continue to use DoxyKlor to sanitize all surfaces as well as many other disinfectants.
  • We have installed various hand sanitizer stations throughout the space, as well as sanitizing wipes to wipe down any surfaces. Our hand sanitizer is alcohol based.

Meeting Room Policies

  • Our Meeting Room capacity has been reduced by half in each room to comply with any local regulations in regards to gatherings. If you would like to bring your team in and use the full capacity of the meeting room, you are welcome to do so. Please contact a staff member for more information.
  • If you need assistance booking a meeting room or would like to find out which one is the best fit for your team, please contact us or hop on our live chat.
  • Our amenities will be returning to normal with one exception. Downtown Works staff will be serving coffee & tea to all members and guests. Our Mini Market is open and contains many pre packaged snacks and a variety of self service drinks. Water is also available at our dispensers.

Space & Design Changes

We’re changing and adapting our workspace to ensure you have the best environment possible.

Health & Safety

  • We have installed multiple Austin Air purifiers. These HealthMate units are the only medical-grade HEPA Air Purifiers on the market.
  • HVAC System Updates/Upgrades
    • Addition of UV-C LED lights. The UV-C band spectrum has been found to be the most effective germicidal light wavelengths. These lights have been shown to inactivate viruses, mycoplasma, bacteria and fungi.
    • Addition of Phenomenal Aire Cold Plasma Generators (CPG). The CPG cleans and kills a high percentage of viruses, bacteria, mold spores, fungus spores, and eliminates allergens.
    • Replacement of HVAC filters from MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) 8 to MERV 11. Filters in the MERV 11 and higher rating have been shown to more effectively filter COVID-19 containing droplets and other harmful particulates.
  • Step & Pull devices have been installed for touchless entry/exit for high frequency locations (ie restrooms)

Social Distancing

  • We have added a variety of stickers to guide you throughout the space which include:
    • Directional Arrows that will prompt a flow of foot traffic that reduces the number of face to face or ‘bumping into someone’ contact.
    • 6 foot social distancing stickers at major congregation points to remind you about proper social distancing techniques.
  • Seating in certain areas has been reduced and we have reduced our overall capacity to allow for social distancing. Please refer to our sample floor plan below.
  • Should you not find a place to sit, Downtown Works staff will accommodate you wherever necessary so you can continue to work safely.
  • We have also installed Acrylic Partitions between Open Space workstations so we can ensure that you are protected from your neighbors. These Acrylic Partitions are part of a collaboration from Safe Acrylic.

Cleaning & Disinfecting

  • Our staff continue to actively clean and disinfect surfaces, however, we encourage members and guests to sanitize before and after using your workstation, phone booths, meeting rooms, and copy machine. We have sanitizing wipes throughout the space and we continue to use DoxyKlor to sanitize all surfaces as well as many other disinfectants. These are readily available for you to use anytime.
  • Please refrain from moving or relocating trash receptacles. Trash will be removed multiple times per day. Should you wish to dispose of boxes or oversized items, please break them down and seek a staff member for proper disposal. If you have an Office, please write TRASH on the boxes so the cleaning crew may throw your items out.

Food Handling

  • We are moving to a Barista style kitchen! Locally Roasted Coffee, Tea, Beer & Snacks will be served by a Downtown Works staff member. Our kitchen areas remain closed until further notice to limit the spread of any diseases. Our Staff members are happy to serve you during business hours. For the health and safety of other members, we ask you to not enter these areas unless a staff member is onsite.
  • Eco-Friendly plates, silverware, and cups are also available for members to use whenever necessary. We are currently discontinuing the use of shared plates and silverware.
  • You are welcome to bring your own food into the office, however, it must be in a sealable container. Our team will store it for you in the fridge and when you’re ready to eat, we’ll warm it up for you if necessary.
    • Please note that we are unable to wash your tupperware and/or any other items you bring in to the office.
    • Food sharing between members is temporarily discouraged.

Events

  • In-space and in-person events have been temporarily suspended. If Downtown Works does decide to host an event, they will be tailored with distancing in mind and to comply with any local and state regulations related to large group gatherings.
  • Virtual Events will continue throughout the next couple of months. Our Virtual Lunch & Learns, Coffee Huddles & more will be posted more frequently along with member-only virtual talks.
